Katie FruhauffKatie Fruhauff, Psy.D., has experience working with children, adolescents, college students, and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. A graduate of George Fox University (M.A., Psy.D.), her training includes issues of spiritual experience and the integration of faith and psychotherapy. Dr. Fruhauff works with all ages, but she particularly enjoys adolescents, college-age individuals, and people beginning families. Her clinical orientation is largely based on psychodynamic theory, a therapy model that emphasizes gaining insight into oneself through analysis of one's strengths and weaknesses. She believes that physical, mental, and spiritual well-being are intimately connected and strives to treat every individual holistically.

Beyond individual therapy, Katie Fruhauff has special offerings in the following areas:

Premarital counseling - As a certified Prepare/Enrich counselor, Dr. Fruhauff guides couples through a premarital assessment and a series of discussions that identify strength and growth areas and develop relationship skills

Prenatal counseling - If we seek premarital counseling to prepare for life with someone we already know well, shouldn't we also seek counseling to prepare for life with someone we haven't met yet? Dr. Fruhauff offers a 4-session program exploring the emotional and psychological issues that face new parents from pregnancy to the delivery room to the first months and years with baby. Topics include parenting styles, discipline, partner relationships, and postpartum depression.

New Moms Support Group - Once baby comes, all the reading and learning you've done takes on a new meaning as you try to apply it to your actual child. Sometimes there's nothing so therapeutic as just knowing you're not alone. This weekly group gives new moms a place to discuss the joys and trials of motherhood and childrearing with other new moms. The group is designed around a 8-week cycle of topics, with built-in flexibility for discussions to go in helpful directions as they arise. This is a great place to hear other women's stories; share your successes and frustrations; and pick up tips about feeding, getting baby to sleep, calming baby down, thriving in your new role, growing your relationship with your partner, keeping your house clean, dealing with family, returning to work, etc. (For mothers of children up to 6 months.)

Adolescent therapy - Adolescence is a pivotal time of life. During the adolescent years, we take great steps toward forming the person who we will be as an adult and we begin making decisions that can have a significant impact on our future lives. Dr. Fruhauff's experience working with troubled youth informs her ability to assist your family in understanding and setting limits with your adolescent(s); it also gives her compassion for youth who are struggling with issues of anger, depression, interpersonal relationships, and identity formation.

Autism Spectrum Disorders - When a child receives a diagnosis of Autism or Asperger's Disorder, it can be difficult news for the whole family. Dr. Fruhauff offers therapy for the families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) providing emotional support, coping skills, and assistance with behavioral plans. Dr. Fruhauff is also interested in providing support for children with ASD, which may range from social skills education to anger management. Support groups for families and social skills groups for youth with ASD are available upon request.
